Shin started singing while still at primary school, he was influenced from a young age and is
still motivated today, by a wide variety of singers from around the world. His inspirations
include Mohd. Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle from the Indian film industry,
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Ajoy Chakrobarty, Pandit Bheemsen Joshi some of the giants of Indian
classical music and on the Bhangra scene he has always looked up to that ever green artist from
Punjab, Gurdas Mann. In the west where Shin was born and educated he was influenced by artists
such as The Beatles, Led Zepplin, Hendrix, James Brown, Elton John and The Jackson 5 to name a
few.
These wide and diverse influences when thrown into the mix have helped Shin to create his distinct
style of vocal delivery and music production in the Bhangra industry which has become the trade
mark sound of DCS the Bhangra band that Shin is a founder member of. Shin and DCS have received
numerous awards and accolades for their achievements in Bhangra music, they have a fan base which
stretches the globe and have toured all major countries around the world and even today enjoy the
status of being the number one live band in the UK.
From singing in the bathroom to singing in stadiums, from singing on bhangra albums to singing in
films, from teaching music workshops to being an ambassador for bhangra music around the globe,
Shin enjoys singing, and regards himself lucky to have been able to make a career from his
passion.
He has recorded songs in Panjabi, Hindi and English and is considered to be the most versatile
singer in the UK Asian music scene.
His talents have also been reined in by the world of musical theatre, and Shin has played the lead
role of Twinkle Singh in Rifco Arts award winning production ‘Britain’s Got Bhangra’ in 2010 and
2011 and Laila-The Musical 2016.
Shin considers him self to be an avid student of the arts and is receiving guidance and training
in every way from his Guru A.S. Mutlashiji who has set Shin on a path to realising and achieving
higher goals in his singing career. Humbled by the fact that there is still so much more to learn
and do in music, Shin is firmly of the opinion that more than one life time is required to master
this art….so look out for Shin in your next life who no doubt will still be trying to achieve his
goals.

Jyotsna’s musical tutelage began at home guided by her mother, Ratna Srikantiah, a Carnatic vocalist and teacher. Dedicated from a young age, as a girl Jyotsna would practice for six hours daily and attend concerts in the evenings. At the age of six she saw violin legend Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan perform and was inspired to take up the string instrument, not looking back since. She trained under musical greats including R.R. Keshavamurthy and V.S. Narasimhan, making her professional debut at the age of nine. Jyotsna went on to begin a successful career lending her talent to the film industry, playing on over two hundred South Indian cinematic soundtracks. Upon moving to London her work expanded to include television and festival engagements including work for the Discovery Channel, National Geographic, WOMAD, BBC Proms and the Red Violin Festival. She also lectures in music, having delivered her discourse at the University of Cambridge and Liverpool University. Currently Jyotsna enjoys a demanding career as an eminent solo musician. Her 2013 album Call of Bangalore (Riverboat Records) cemented her position as a ‘major instrumentalist of vision and imagination’ (fRoots) and ‘an extraordinary and versatile violinist’ (The Guardian). 2014 sees the release of Bangalore Dreams (United Sound). Bangalore Dreams is Jyotsna’s meditation on a theme of encounters; east meets west, ornamentation meets groove, India meets jazz. Her violin sings out vivid melodies and redolent ragas of her beloved Bangalore, twisted through with a strong jazz flavour. 2016 saw the release of Carnatic Connection, an exotic collaboration with the 11 member Bollywood Brass Band. Jyotsna is also the founder and curator of London International Arts Festival (LIAF) and leads Dhruv Arts, a UK-based not-for-profit educational organisation.
