UK-headquartered higher education facilitator Oxford International Education Group has unveiled a brand-new opportunity for Indian students to study for an undergraduate degree at Jacobs University, one of Germany’s leading universities.

As a pathway provider through an international college at the university based in Bremen, Germany, the group is offering a one-year, tailored preparatory programme to help international students deepen their English language skills, prepare for the multifaceted academic world, and experience an on-campus living experience over time. During the Covid-19 pandemic, students at Jacobs University are being offered blended learning options.

Lil Bremermann-Richard, CEO of the Oxford International Education Group, said: “The life-enhancing experience of international study is one of the many things the coronavirus pandemic has taken from many Indian students in 2020. But in this new year, I hope we will see the world open up once more and we hope to help students from India and all over the world enrich their futures by studying at one of Germany’s leading universities.

“We are excited to become the first pathway provider to establish an international college with a German university, where our deep expertise in providing comprehensive and tailored tuition will support students as they pursue their studies in Germany. We are looking forward to working with Jacob’s University to unlock the potential and opportunities that a German higher education can offer students from India."

Connected world

After completing the foundation programme, students can progress onto an undergraduate course of their choice at Jacobs University. Ranked among the world’s top 300 universities and with an international student population of 80 per cent, Jacobs University has a wide subject range that covers International Business, Management, Computer Sciences, Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Industrial Engineering and Robotics.

Professor Antonio Loprieno, President of Jacobs University, said: “Jacobs University International College (JUIC) is an important milestone in our mission and commitment towards opening more chances for international students for an excellent education.

“In a dynamical and connected world, we are convinced that JUIC will empower our social and educational impact and help students to discover and achieve their full potential.”

The application deadline for the 2021 cohort of international students is June 15, with students also eligible to receive a tuition fee deferral after completing the one-year foundation course.

Germany calling

According to latest global education data, Germany has been growing in significance as a higher education destination for international students, with over 20,000 Indian students enrolled at German institutions in 2019 – representing a year-on-year increase of 18.9 per cent. The country is pitching itself as a favourable global education hub, with attractive post-study work options for international students.

The Oxford International Education Group is an accredited, private education provider that operates independent boarding schools, international colleges, educational tours and English language centres across for students worldwide. The group has a track record of similar partnerships with UK universities, such as Bangor University, De Montfort University, the University of Dundee and the University of Greenwich and says that it also works with agents in India to assist students with their visa applications.
