5 common mistakes to be avoided on the road to wellbeing
Published on

I've seen many people try to cut sugar on their own, but they fail again and again. And it's often because they don't realise they are making mistakes, which are keeping them stuck and going around in circles.

Guess, what happens when you stop making mistakes? You can finally lose weight and keep it off. This helps to balance your hormones, increase energy through the day and your clothes fit comfortably.

Five Common Mistakes

1. Going cold turkey

When you stop sugar overnight it becomes uncomfortable, because you begin to have the withdrawal symptoms such as feeling dizzy, lightheaded, irritable and you may even get headaches. And as you feel miserable without sugar... you go right back to it and are finding it's really difficult to stop on your own.

2. Replacements

So, you stopped the sugar but haven't thought of the replacements for your treats. It's important you know what foods to replace your favourite sweet snacks like cookies, cakes, biscuits with.

Also, what are you going to have to replace your Indian traditional foods like ladoos and barfi?

What are you going to have instead of ice cream?

Just the thought of giving up these foods makes you feel deprived!

3. Not understanding the causes

If you haven’t understood what’s causing your craving, you haven’t really dealt with it. Is it emotional eating, or could it be hormonal changes, or could it be because you are busy and overwhelmed, or is it being caused by low energy, or maybe because you aren’t having balanced meals?

If this is not addressed, you will continue to always crave the sugary food.

4. Stopping all sugars

This is a mistake because you do not need to stop the natural sugars. You only need to reduce or avoid the added refined sugars.

Our body needs some sugars. Stop quitting all sugars, instead learn about the quality and quantity of sugars. So, you can still continue having natural sugars like fruits and natural sweeteners like honey.

5. Lack of a balanced diet

Do you have proper meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner? If not, you’re going to be hungry soon after eating and then you’re constantly grazing through the day and this is causing the sugar cycle.

The only way you can successfully stop your sugar cravings is to learn from an experienced coach, because only then will you get the knowledge, the understanding, the support and accountability and most importantly the recipes.

Many parents understand this when it comes to their children and they prioritise their children's academic, athletic, and musical pursuits, and support this with additional learning when needed. However, the same parents neglect their own health and wellbeing. Prioritise yourself too and don't put yourself at the bottom of your list.
