Eight senior figures from leading Indian banks based in the financial heart of London were awarded the Freedom of the City of London this week, in recognition of the significant trade relationship between India and the UK’s financial services sectors.
The bankers receiving the historic award include:
Madhur Kumar – Bank of Baroda
Manish Gupta – Bank of India
Ashok Kumar Vartia – Export-Import Bank of India
Sharukh T. Wadia – IndusInd Bank
Rakesh Kumar – India Infrastructure Finance Company (IIFC)
Loknath Mishra – ICICI Bank
Sudhir Kumar Sharma – State Bank of India (SBI)
Arbind Kumar Choudhary – Union Bank of India
The Freedom of the City of London dates back to the 13th century and has since developed into an honour bestowed upon individuals who make an impact in the financial hub of London, referred to as the City or the Square Mile.
