Indian PM Modi congratulates new UK PM Liz Truss

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss for getting elected as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

In the congratulatory message, PM Modi said under her leadership, the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will be further strengthened.

"Congratulations @trussliz for being chosen to be the next PM of the UK. Confident that under your leadership, the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will be further strengthened. Wish you the very best for your new role and responsibilities," PM Modi tweeted.

Liz Truss was announced as the new head of the Conservative Party. Forty-seven-year-old Liz Truss will become the third female prime minister of the UK.

India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also congratulated Liz Truss for getting elected as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
Taking to Twitter, Jaishanakar in his congratulatory message wrote that the India-UK partnership will further strengthen under her leadership.

"Congratulations @trussliz on being elected as the leader of UK Conservative Party. Your commitment to raising India-UK cooperation to a higher level is well known. Confident that our relationship will grow further under your leadership," Jaishankar tweeted.

She defeated former Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak through a postal ballot of all Conservative members. Truss secured 81,326 votes while Sunak got 60,399 votes.

"I am honoured to be elected Leader of the Conservative Party. Thank you for putting your trust in me to lead and deliver for our great country . I will take bold action to get all of us through these tough times, grow our economy, and unleash the United Kingdom's potential," Truss wrote on Twitter.
