Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian men's table tennis team for striking gold against Singapore in the final event at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022.
Indian men's table tennis team clinched the gold medal defeating Singapore 3-1 in the final at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Tuesday. It was another dominant performance by the Indian paddlers. "Great news in Table Tennis! Congratulations to the dynamic team of G. Sathiyan, Harmeet Desai, Sharat Kamal and Sanil Shetty for winning the Gold medal at the CWG. This team has set high benchmarks, be it in skill or determination. Best wishes for their future endeavours," tweeted PM Modi.
President Droupadi Murmu also congratulated the team for their accomplishment.
Meanwhile, following the historic gold medal win in Lawn Bowls at the Commonwealth Games 2022, Rupa Rani Tirkey's hometown erupted in joy after the Indian Lawn Bowls team created history by winning its first-ever medal in the sport on August 2.
People from Tirkey's native place were distributing sweets after the match and neighbours garlanded her parents and congratulated them.
The Indian Lawn Bowls defeated South Africa in the final of the women's fours event.
"I am elated. Not only for the family but this is a good opportunity for everyone that despite hailing from a small city, a history was created. I can't describe our happiness in words," Rupa's sister Raina Rani Tirkey said.
However, Indian badminton mixed team suffered a 1-3 defeat against Malaysia and had to settle for silver. Only PV Sindhu managed to earn a win in the summit clash against Malaysia in the women's singles match.
