This Bollywood power-women helmed comedy made waves in cinemas before dropping on Netflix recently, where it continues to rank high.

Geeta Sethi (Tabu) dreams of cashing in on her lifetime of employee savings as a loyal senior air stewardess on board Kohinoor Airlines and setting up a restaurant with her devoted chef husband Arun (Sharma). This dream makes her unrelenting flight schedules just about bearable alongside crew members Jasmine Kohli (Kapoor Khan) and Divya Rana (Sanon). These younger women may have fewer flying hours under their belt, but their dreams of breaking free of the daily grind is quite evenly matched with their senior’s.

Series Review — Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar

In Jasmine’s case, her upbringing with a doting grandfather after her parents’ failed marriage has resulted in insecurities which she tries to make up for through expensive branded goods – not always through kosher means. Meanwhile, “Divya Rana from Haryana” is living a double life as she fools her loving hand-to-mouth family into believing that she is in fact living the dream after qualifying as a pilot and not as a mere air steward in an airline that has failed to pay its employees for several months due to a suspicious financial crunch.

The trio’s on-air friendship soon gets entrenched on the ground after the sudden death of an ageing crew member mid-flight, found strapped with copious amounts of gold bars. It transpires that this dodgy senior air steward had been part of a smuggling ring being coordinated by their line manager. The discovery of this gold-laden dead body turns Geeta, Jasmine and Divya into a threesome ready to fill the gap left by the dead smuggler in order to pay the bills until their salaries regularise again.

With honest Customs Officer Jaiveer Singh (Dosanjh) hot on their heels and the money laundering owner of Kohinoor Airlines Vijay Walia (Chatterjee) plotting to flee the country without clearing his dues, their smuggling operation proves short-lived. Will the trio’s gold racket land them in prison or will they get a chance to atone by outsmarting their corrupt high-flying boss?

Film Review: Dhak Dhak [Heartbeat]

This comedy based on a very thinly veiled real-life doomed posh Indian airline and its fugitive flamboyant boss has been handled with a feather-light touch which makes it a very entertaining watch. The three lead actors are picture perfect in their roles, with the mega talented Tabu shining through with her impressive comic timing.

Peppy musical numbers harking back to some Bollywood classics and a well-paced plot makes this a very enjoyable flight with a talented ‘Crew’ making a fun bumpy landing.
