Billed as a laugh riot while promising some not-so-good news, this new Dharma Productions entertainer has all the makings of a typical time-pass Bollywood comedy.
Saloni Bagga (Dimri) has one obsessive dream which is to win a “Meraki Star” for her culinary expertise as head chef at a Mexican fusion restaurant in Delhi. While her mother is busy dragging her to big fat weddings all over the city in the hope of snaring a rich and handsome husband, Saloni is keen to stay laser-focussed on her career goal.
In walks Akhil Chadha (Kaushal), whose swag and romantic moves eventually win over a reluctant Saloni unable to resist this self-proclaimed greatest of all time (G.O.A.T) eligible bachelor. However, as they rush through falling in love and marriage, complete with the obligatory European honeymoon song-and-dance, the initial opposites attract theory is tested to its very limit.

A heartbroken and divorced Saloni moves to Missouri as the head chef in a luxury resort whose owner happens to be pursuing a dream that chimes with her own – to win a Meraki Star for its Gujarati restaurant Aavjo. Here, she encounters a very different kind of romance with Gurbir Pannu (Virk) – a complete antithesis to her ex-husband’s extravagance and hyperbole. Saloni finds herself drawn to both these Punjabi men for very different reasons and a fateful night together results in the one-in-a-billion “heteropaternal superfecundation” twin pregnancies with both Akhil and Gurbir the fathers. How will the trio deal with this ‘Bad Newz’?
The promise of some laugh-out-loud moments is certainly delivered by this silly and entertaining script, which would benefit from some trimming. The film’s ode to producer Karan Johar’s romance tropes and rekindling of some classic Bollywood melodies coupled with Kaushal’s swag and Virk’s impressive comic timing make this a fun ride all the way through. Dimri delivers the feminist undertones of the film with ease, aided by her quirky aunt played by Neha Dhupia.
