‘Bombay Superstars’ is a scintillating concert musical that delves into the disco, the divas and the drama that shaped Bollywood icons. Set against the vibrant backdrop of 1970s Bombay, the musical unfolds a scandalous battlefield of ambition, passion and treachery.

An orphaned girl, shunned by society, arrives in the city of dreams to meet the famed director, Pavan Picturewalla. Desperate to protect a secret from his cherished daughter, Mala, who loves aspiring actor, Arjun, Pavan faces new challenges. Meanwhile, superstar Bunty schemes to seize it all by transforming the young orphan into Rani, helping her claim her rightful place in the world of ‘Bombay Superstars’.

Created by the visionary Sâmir Bhamra, Bombay Superstars is a colourful and delicious romantic musical about anguished love, master manipulation and the unbreakable bonds of family during the dazzling golden era of Bollywood cinema. The musical features iconic Bollywood classic hits like Bachna Ae Haseeno, Dum Maro Dum, Khaike Paan, Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum, and Chura Liya, along with new songs by Robby Khela and musical arrangements by Hinal Pattani.

‘Bombay Superstars’ will be the fourth ‘Made in the UK’ South Asian musical to grace the West End and is notably the first by an independent producer. Phizzical is thrilled to announce the exceptional cast for the concert version of the musical, ‘Bombay Superstars’, set to debut for one night only on September 15 at His Majesty’s Theatre in London’s West End. The musical version will then be running from 8-17 November at Beck Theatre, Hayes. A pre-West End performance of the showcase concert version will also take place on September 12 at Dance City, Newcastle. 

Phizzical Productions said it is proud to unveil its incredibly talented company of 23 British Indian and British performers, many of whom are making their West End debut. ‘Bend it Like Beckham’ (Phoenix Theatre) vocalists Rekha and Chirag Rao as Rani and Arjun will make their West End debuts as actors, with Omar Khan (‘Life of Pi’, Wyndham's Theatre) as Pavan returning to the West End. 

Sowmya JayKrish as Mala, Robby Khela as Bunty, Sheetal Pandya as Dolly and Rukmini Sircar in a dual role of Mona and Pammi are making their West End debuts. In addition to the main cast, the musical boasts an impressive ensemble of dancers who will bring the stage to life with their energetic performances: Aaron Mistry, Callum Quinnen, Cole Dilley, Daisy Hardy, Kush Saigal, Magi Barbazova, Preeti Sian, Prem Rai, Sophie Kandola and Tianna Sealy-Jewiss.

London Bollywood Orchestra to debut with ‘Bollywood Greats’ at Wilton’s Music Hall

The performances will be energised by dynamic dances choreographed by the UK's most sought after Bollywood Dance Choreographer, Leena Patel (‘Strictly Come Dancing’, Will.I.Am).  The live music will be performed by the 515 Crew, led by musical director Hinal Pattani (‘The Empress’/RSC), featuring musicians, Dhaivat Acharya, Bindi Bhumbra, Ragen Brahmbhatt, Vikaash Sankadecha and Trushar Tailor. 

The creative team includes sound designer Julian Starr, who is one of the Top 4 Sound Designer and Composers in Australia (‘Stage Whispers’) and lighting designer Pete Bragg.
