Bollywood stars Kriti Sanon and Ankita Lokhande have joined a growing number of demands for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the death of Sushant Singh Rajput (SSR), who was found hanging in his apartment in Mumbai in June.
Sanon - Singh's co-star in the 2017 film 'Raabta' - issued an official statement demanding a CBI inquiry in the matter.
She said: "I pray that the Truth comes out SOON His family, his friends, fans, and all loved ones deserve this closure.
"I hope and pray that the CBI takes over the case so it's investigated without any political agendas, in the TRUE sense, to provide justice to the family!! Its high time his soul rests in peace! #CBIForSSR #SushantSinghRajput."
Lokhande, who is an ex-girlfriend of the late actor, shared her video message on Instagram: "The nation wants to know what happened with Sushant Singh Rajput. Justice for Sushant, CBI for SSR."
There has been growing clamour among Bollywood actors for an inquiry to establish the full details of Rajput's death, which was deemed a suicide. Kangana Ranaut is among the many Bollywood leading ladies demanding a CBI inquiry in the case, also putting out a video message.
Rajput was found dead in his Bandra residence in Mumbai on June 14, triggering worldwide debates around issues such as nepotism and bullying in the Indian film industry. His last major release, 'Dil Bechara', premiered on Hotstar as a free to stream tribute.
The death also opened up discussions around complex issues of mental health, with many of the actor's friends using social media to share their cherished memories of the star who died aged just 34. 'Gully Boy' actor Siddhant Chaturvedi was among those who recently shared a video with fans in which he matched dance steps with Rajput at a talent hunt during their college days.
He took to Instagram to share the clip from the talent hunt back in 2012, where he is seen grooving to the iconic song 'Chikni Chameli' on stage with SSR.
