Excitement mounts for new Bollywood comic horror ‘Munjya’

Ever since its music has been making waves with songs like Tainu Khabar Nahin (You aren’t aware), Bollywood comic-horror ‘Munjya’ has been building up some spooky excitement among fans of the genre.

Ahead of the film’s release on June 7, lead actors Sharvari and Mona Singh went to seek blessings at Mumbai's famous Siddhivinayak Temple. They were accompanied by co-star Abhay Verma.

Starring them and Sathyaraj, the film directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, revolves around Munjya – a myth rooted in Indian beliefs and enhanced by CGl.

‘Munjya’ springs into action after hearing the popular song Munni Badnam Hui from Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's 2010 blockbuster film ‘Dabangg’. The screenplay of ‘Munjya’ has been developed by Yogesh Chandekar and Niren Bhatt, while Sachin Sanghvi and Jigar Saraiya have composed the music for the film.

Mona Singh said: "I'm playing the character of Pammi in the film. Abhay is portraying Bittu, my son, and I'm his mother, who is pretty strict and possessive about him.

“Our journey together is filled with twists and turns. There's plenty of drama and chaos. My character in the film is a lot of fun, a bit loud and feisty, and it's hardcore comedy, something I've never attempted before."
Sharvari also shared details about her character in the film: "My character is a modern girl who wants to achieve her dreams and prioritises them above everything else, which I think we all do nowadays.

“Many girls will relate to my character. Her dating life is also quite confusing, so many girls will relate to that too. A very beautifully written character," she said.

Sharing her experience of working with Sathyaraj of ‘Baahubali’ fame, she added: "I am a huge fan of all of Rajamouli sir's work and of course his epic cult blockbuster ‘Baahubali’. I have seen both films multiple times. So, when I first learnt that Sathyaraj sir is part of ‘Munjya’, I was excited beyond words.

His versatility, patience, and sheer talent transcended everything. Whether it was a comic scene or an intense moment, Sathyaraj sir's consistency and ease made every scene come alive. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have shared the screen with such a phenomenal actor and I hope to have the opportunity to collaborate with him again."

The film comes from the makers of another similar comic horror ‘Stree’, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao.
