The Indian government's bold decision to revoke Article 370 of the Indian Constitution to align the states of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country goes beyond politics.
It was with this wide-angle panoramic view that India Global Forum (IGF) recently organised a special screening of the film ‘Article 370’ followed by insightful reflections and discussions to explore the importance of leadership skills and reel life being inspired by real life.
“What made the 370 decision so special was that not a drop of blood was spilled,” said director Aditya Suhas Jambhale at the IGF NXT10 Summit in Mumbai last month.
Jyoti Deshpande, producer of the film, noted: “It's a tightrope when you walk on subjects like this. Very quickly it can become propaganda and take away from the message you want to convey.”
In the film set in the Kashmir Valley, talented actor Yami Gautam Dhar plays intelligence officer Zooni Haksar. The fictional take follows the Indian government’s 5 August 2019 decision to revoke Article 370, which gave special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, and bifurcated it into the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
Even, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a special reference to the film while addressing a gathering in Jammu on a visit to the north Indian region.
He said: "I have heard that a film on Article 370 is going to be released this week... It is a good thing as it will help people in getting correct information."

Responding to PM Modi's speech, Yami Gautam took to social media to say: "It is an absolute honour to watch PM Narendra Modi ji talk about #Article370Movie. My team and I really hope that we all exceed your expectations in bringing this incredible story to the screen!"
With reference to the film, the actor added: “Article 370 is a bold chapter of India's history. A political-action-drama inspired by true events, which will show an in-depth portrayal of how intelligence and politics work hand in hand to take some of the most important decisions that change the course for a nation.
“I am hopeful that the audience will enjoy this genre-defining film. Personally, for me as an actor, this film gave me the opportunity to delve into newer depths of complexities and once again gave me a role that hasn't been treaded before."
