In a spirited show of athleticism, camaraderie and teamwork, the High Commission of India XI won the Annual Cricket Match against FICCI XI – a much awaited sporting fixture within the diaspora calendar in the UK.

The West Herts Cricket Club in Hertfordshire recently hosted the event, which showcased both the spirit of friendship and unity as well as some exceptional cricketing abilities. Families, CEOs of leading businesses and supporters who came in great numbers to cheer on the teams also enjoyed a day of fun activities.

The High Commission of India XI led by  Sujit Ghosh, Deputy High Commissioner (DHC) of India in the UK, showed their skill on the field and secured a hard-fought win against the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) XI. Both teams fought with passion and teamwork, demonstrating the spirit of sportsmanship.

DCH Sujit Ghosh said: "FICCI deserves all the praise for organising this Annual Cricket Match, which brings Indian and UK businesses together. High Commission of India is delighted to be part of this annual event.

“While the cricket on field is extremely competitive, as it should be, what is important is the off the field bonhomie and camaraderie that it generates. It is also a useful medium of underlining the importance of wellbeing and good health in our lives. The match has once again demonstrated the power of sports in bringing the Indian diaspora and local businesses together, fostering goodwill, and celebrating shared values."

The thrilling contest was not only entertaining for spectators, but it also highlighted the importance of building connections within the diaspora. The sun-kissed cricket field was a witness to some outstanding performances and conviviality between the High Commission of India (HCI) and FICCI teammates.

Baroness Usha Prashar, Chairperson, FICCI UK Council, said: "Congratulations to the High Commission team lead by the Deputy High Commissioner for the comprehensive win. As we look back on an exhilarating day of cricket, I am proud of the achievements and the spirit shown by both teams in the Annual Cricket Match between the High Commission of India XI and FICCI XI.
