Bolton-based Devesha Bhavsar is the Founder of Bolton Asian Women, a community organisation created to support women of South Asian heritage in the region in various ways. In this column, the British Indian professional shares her inspiration behind the initiative and its goals – both short and longer term.
As the Founder of Bolton Asian Women (BAW), I am excited to introduce our women-only community dedicated to Asian women in Bolton. Our mission is to build a supportive network where Asian women in Bolton can socialise, network, empower, support each other, and uplift one another, focusing on wellbeing.
Asian women in our community often face a lack of local community support. Our initiative aims to bridge this gap, fostering personal and professional growth among them. It's time for Asian women in Bolton to shine brightly.

Goals – short-term:
- Facilitating Communication and Integration: Helping Asian women in Bolton to communicate and integrate into society.
- Employment Support: Offering job search assistance, confidence-building workshops, and employment preparation.
- Cultural Counselling: Providing culturally tailored counselling and support groups for Bolton Asian women.
- Community Engagement: Encouraging participation in local community activities to build social networks and reduce isolation.

- Empowerment and Skill Building: Empowering women with the skills and knowledge necessary to support themselves and their families.
- Health and Well-being: Enhancing overall health and well-being through continuous support services and health awareness programs.

- Business Support and Collaboration: Striving to support local Bolton Asian women in business and fostering collaboration among them.
- Expansion: Expanding our reach to nearby areas such as Wigan, Horwich, Chorley, Leigh, and others.
