Nutkhut says the spirit of the Commonwealth will flow through its Platinum Jubilee sari, a key feature of the performance and composed of sustainable recycled plastics to be displayed on four-meter-high puppets. The final design of the sari was chosen by renowned fashion designer Paul Costelloe and created as a group project by 15 talented students from Arts University Bournemouth. Around 20 dancers will wear the sari print, as well as two custom-made mega puppets draped in the stunning design will travel alongside the tiered wedding cake. Ten saris have also been packaged, posted and stamped with a wax seal of approval to cities across five continents where they will be worn by individuals in front of iconic backdrops such as New York’s Brooklyn Bridge, Sydney’s Harbour Bridge and Rome’s Colosseum.

Nutkhut Co-Artistic Director Simmy Gupta said: “To re-imagine the sari, a timeless garment, for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Pageant is both an honour and a joy.

Celebrations began with the Queen’s Birthday Parade or Trooping the Colour taking place at Horseguards Parade in London this week. It will be followed by a Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral and then a Party at the Palace concert with some of the biggest names in music. The extended Jubilee weekend comes to a close on June 5 with the pageant.
