Gautam Dev Sood, a relative of Rishi Sunak, expressed his excitement at the British Prime Minister arriving in New Delhi this week for the G20 Leaders’ Summit over the weekend.
He said: "We are very happy that he is coming to India. There is a great sense of excitement that we are trying to assemble in Delhi if it is possible to meet him.”
Sood also said that the British Indian PM’s relatives in Ludhiana are equally excited and making every effort to be able to meet him, even if briefly.
Sunak along with several other global leaders and delegates will participate in the historic G20 Summit in the Indian capital on September 9-10.
India assumed the G20 presidency on 1 December 2022 and about 200 meetings related to G20 were organised in 60 cities across the country. The 18th G20 Heads of State and Government Summit in New Delhi will mark the culmination of the G20 presidency throughout the course of this year among ministers, senior officials, and civil society organisations.

A G20 Leaders’ Declaration will be adopted at the conclusion of the New Delhi Summit, stating leaders’ commitment towards the priorities discussed and agreed upon during the respective ministerial and working group meetings.
While in Delhi, Sunak – who is accompanied by wife Akshata Murty – will hold bilateral talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The ongoing UK-India free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations are expected to feature heavily during this exchange.
“Prime Minister Modi-ji and I agree there’s huge potential here. We’re making great progress together on the 2030 Roadmap. And we want to strike a truly ambitious trade deal that benefits both our nations, bringing tremendous opportunities to businesses and consumers, both in India and here at home,” Sunak had said during India Global Forum’s UK-India Week in June.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden is also expected to hold similar talks, particularly related to bilateral economic cooperation and multilateral investment opportunities. John Kirby, the US National Security Council (NSC) coordinator for strategic communications, pointed out that there is very little possibility that PM Modi and President Biden will focus on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
