In his special tribute to the late Her Majesty, The Queen, British Indian peer Lord Jitesh Gadhia reflected upon her palpable connect with India – which was on display during a special reception hosted for the UK-India Year of Culture in 2017.

Addressing the special session of Parliament, Lord Gadhia spoke movingly of the second Elizabethan Age which marked improved community cohesion and greater diversity of the United Kingdom.

“As Chair of the British Asian Trust, founded by His Majesty King Charles III some 15 years ago, I know that our new monarch shares the same priorities as his mother for the Commonwealth; and maintains a deep and abiding connectivity to all the countries of South Asia,” he said.

Reflecting upon the “enormous shoes to fill”, Lord Gadhia said the new monarch possesses the strength of character and sense of purpose to pick up the baton from his mother and continue the same dedication to public service.

The tributes in Parliament played out as temples and gurdwaras up and down the UK held prayer ceremonies in memory of the late monarch and also offered condolences to her successor, King Charles III.

“Her Majesty was respected and admired not only in the United Kingdom, but across the world. She was an inspirational monarch, who personified the values of service and public duty, guiding the United Kingdom and Commonwealth with dignity, courage and selfless dedication for 70 years,” reads a letter by His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj, the spiritual head of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha and Neasden Temple in London.
