The Indian music industry has lost a gem in the form of veteran singer-composer Bappi Lahiri, who died on Tuesday night at 69.
Dr Deepak Namjoshi, the Physician, Cardiologist and Pulmonologist, who was treating the musician, informed that Bappi Lahiri breathed his last on February 15 at Mumbai's CritiCare Hospital. The doctor declared in a statement that the singer had been battling OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) and recurrent chest infection since 2021.
The statement continued, "He suffered from Covid infection last year. He has had OSA for the last one year."
Expressing grief over the demise of 'Disco King', the Indian music and film fraternity, including AR Rahman, Shreya Ghoshal, Vishal Dadlani, Shan, Ajay Devgn and many others, took to their social media and penned heartfelt tributes remembering the legend.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences over the demise of veteran singer-composer and said that everyone will miss his lively nature.
"Shri Bappi Lahiri Ji's music was all-encompassing, beautifully expressing diverse emotions. People across generations could relate to his works. His lively nature will be missed by everyone. Saddened by his demise. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti," PM Modi said in a tweet.
Best known for his iconic compositions in 'Wardat', 'Disco Dancer', 'Namak Halaal', 'Dance Dance', 'Commando', 'Saheb', 'Gang Leader', 'Sailaab' and 'Sharaabi', Bappi Lahiri had popularised disco music in the country from the 1980s to 1990s.
