‘Bridgerton’ actor Charithra Chandran set for West End debut with one-woman show

British Indian actor, producer and activist Charithra Chandran – best known for her Amazon spy thriller series ‘Alex Rider’ (2021) and the hugely popular Netflix period drama ‘Bridgerton’ – will be making her West End debut with ‘Instructions For A Teenage Armageddon’ next month.

The one-woman show, which will hit the stage in March at the Garrick Theatre, is set to be a rollercoaster ride through youth. Chandran will portray a funny teenage misfit who, after her sister’s untimely death by a Yorkshire Pudding, begrudgingly joins a flailing scout group to help her navigate the kicks and punches of adolescence with varying degrees of success. Whether you are a young person, know a young person, or simply were a young person once, the production promises to reconnect the viewer with their younger selves.

Chandran came to international prominence as Edwina Sharma in season 2 of Netflix’s Regency-era drama ‘Bridgerton’. Her performance and on-screen presence got her both critical acclaim as well as fan admiration. The role also won Chandran the Rising Star Award at Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards 2022 and a nomination at the National Television Awards 2022.

This year, Chandran will be seen in Alex Sanjiv Pillai’s romantic comedy ‘How to Date Billy Walsh’ which will stream on Prime Video. On the television front, Chandran already has three shows lined up, all of which will see her essay the lead roles. It was announced that, out of the three announced projects, Chandran will also associate produce ‘Song of the Sun God’, a six-part drama series based on the novel of the same name by Shankari Chandran.

Chandran is also a global ambassador for Room to Read, a charity committed to providing books and literacy and practical skills programmes to children across the world.

Written by Rosie Day and directed by Georgie Staight, the show will run from March 17 to April 28, 2024.
