‘Ginny Weds Sunny’ is the new romantic comedy from Netflix India stables and its stars, Vikrant Massey and Yami Gautam, hope it will bring with it much joyous wedding fervour as it hit the screens over the weekend.
The new Punjabi wedding extravaganza features two very popular actors, who have not only made waves with their versatile performances but also cornered a special place in the hearts of Bollywood fans around the world.
Directed by Puneet Khanna, the storyline is of a free-spirited Delhiite who refuses to settle for a subpar love. In comes Sunny who woos her with his goofy charm, with a little help from her official matchmaker mum. Despite their opposing personalities and a meddlesome family to cope with, the couple find themselves drawn to each other.
"Music is important to the narrative," Massey told UK media during an exclusive Sony Music India event last week.
“The feel-good film features five energetic dance songs suited for every function in the Indian wedding ceremony. From sangeet to reception, the new Netflix release is jampacked with the anthem of the year,” he said.
The wedding party anthem, 'Sawan Mein Lag Gayi Aag', is guaranteed to get everyone up on the dance floor and grooving. It was composed by Payal Dev and Mika Singh, rendered by Neha Kakkar, Mika Singh and Badshah and written by Payal Dev, Mika Singh, Badshah and Mohsin Shaikh.
'LOL' is dubbed as the perfect sangeet number, written by Kunaal Vermaa and sung by Payal Dev and Devi Negi. Composed by Gaurav Chatterji, written by Sandeep Gaur and sung by Neeti Mohan, Jatinder Singh and Harjot K. Dhillon, 'Phoonk Phoonk' is the happening baraat song.
Yami Gautam's self-professed favourite is 'Rubaru', the melancholic song of the soundtrack, sung by Kamal Khan, composed by Jaan Nissar Lone and written by Peer Zahoor. And, 'Phir Chala' is a soulful track sung by Jubin Nautiyal, composed by Payal Dev and written by Kunaal Vermaa.
Much like the storyline, shooting came with its fair share of hurdles. During filming, Gautam had been diagnosed with dengue fever and therefore no song shoot in the film went without some giddiness.
"This film has been toughest for me for health reasons... no song shoot in #GINNYwedsSUNNY went without giddiness and feeling weak but it's my constant support system which kept me going strong and made sure I never feel low even for a fraction of a second,” she posted on Instagram.
