‘The Kashmir Files’ seems to be riding high on the international box office, with a collection of $1.5 million in week one of its release, eyeing a total of $3 million by the end of the second weekend.
The film, directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, has been dubbed a “blockbuster” by its makers, having struck a chord with global audiences. Agnihotri has presented a very hard-hitting narrative that has emotionally connected with the viewers, said Zee Studios.

Made on a minimal budget, the film excelled at the box office by crossing Rs 100 crores in just seven days since its release on March 11. Not only in the domestic market but the film has made a mark in the international markets too. Initially opened in only nine countries across 100 screens, it saw an increase to 25 countries across 350 screens, reflective of the word-of-mouth effect on the film.
In North America, the film has grossed $1 million, in the UK it has grossed $160,000 and in Australia it has grossed $262,000. The film has also been trending in Top 10 at the North America and Australia Box Office in its first week. In Australia, there is a great demand from smaller towns like Geraldton, Bunbury, Port Hedland where no Indian film has been showcased before, the filmmakers report.
The second Friday last week has shown a 500 per cent increase from the first day, with collections at over $500,000.
“Seldom there’s a content-driven film that does humungous business at the box office and a rare case in the Indian cinema that the screens and shows across the globe were doubled in mid-week. It has become a case study in Indian cinema that the collections are showing upward trend each day since the release of the film,” the filmmakers said in a statement.
