Abhishek Bachchan’s new film ‘I Want To Talk’ to tug at heartstrings

‘I Want To Talk’, directed by Shoojit Sircar and produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar, dropped a first glimpse this week into the heartfelt story of healing and introspection.

Set to release on November 22, the film captures the journey of Arjun (Abhishek Bachchan) as he grapples with unresolved emotions and the burden of past regrets, as he embarks on a path of self-discovery following a life-altering surgery.

The trailer opens with a scene depicting Arjun struggling to articulate the word “extraordinary” while his neck is immobilised in a plaster cast – a consequence of major neck surgery. His young daughter (portrayed by newcomer Ahilya Bamroo) tenderly guides him, setting the stage for a profound father-daughter relationship that anchors the narrative. Through a powerful voiceover, Arjun expresses a deep desire for forgiveness from those he has wronged, even as he grapples with understanding his own life’s purpose.

In ‘I Want To Talk’, Sircar takes audiences on an intimate journey, exploring themes of vulnerability, familial bonds, and the inner turmoil that can follow significant life changes. Arjun’s struggle to reconnect with himself and those around him is evident, particularly in his interactions with his daughter, which are both tender and fraught with tension. Bachchan’s portrayal is raw and nuanced, revealing a character who must confront his own silence and emotional isolation to find meaning.

Adding moments of levity to the intensity, the trailer offers glimpses of humour characteristic of Sircar’s storytelling. In one scene, Arjun’s family misinterprets a situation, leading to comic misunderstandings, while in another, his long-suffering doctor humorously considers locking him out of the clinic due to his frequent visits. These moments bring a balanced depth to the narrative, blending heartfelt emotion with a touch of wit.
