South Asian Heritage Month 2024 kicks off with #FreeToBeMe theme

iGlobal Desk

This year’s South Asian Heritage Month (SAHM), from July 18 to August 17, is themed as “Free to Be Me” – celebrating the beauty of simply being yourself.

Every one of us has a unique journey filled with moments that have shaped who we are. We want to hear about the experiences that have taught you valuable lessons and helped you grow. No matter who you are, your story matters,” is the message of SAHM 2024.

Our stories connect us in profound ways, and there are countless ways to share them. Whether you express yourself through art, writing, music, fashion, or food, your heritage is worth celebrating. Let’s explore the diverse ways we honour our roots and individuality.

Co-founders Jasvir Singh and Binita Kane said: “South Asian Heritage Month has been a such an important project. We want people to understand what it means to be South Asian in the present day, as well as look at how South Asian-ness can be found in all facets of life in society.

“The month is for everyone, regardless of whether or not you are of South Asian heritage yourself.”

This year, the focus is on themes that resonate with community and embody the spirit of “Free to Be Me”:
