India’s renowned sarod virtuoso Amjad Ali Khan brought his musical insights to the UK for a very special Taj Rendezvous event this week, uniting three generations of the melodious Bangash family in an intimate setting.
Ustad Amjad Ali Khan was joined by his immensely talented sons, Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash, along with his grandsons, Zohaan and Abeer. Together they created an enchanting evening of music that plucked at the heartstrings of the gathering in London’s most iconic Indian hotel.
“This is the first time that we have all come together like this on a UK stage,” shared a proud Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, surrounded by his disciples – the youngest of whom rightly refer to him a G.O.A.T – Greatest Of All Time.
In a brief in-conversation session with British conductor David Murphy, with whom the Ustad has collaborated on Samagam or confluence, the multi-award-winning musician reflected upon the divinity associated with music in India.

“As I often say, India is the only country where ‘swar hi ishwar hai’ – music connects you to God, we worship through music and when as we practice – do our sadhana – we feel connected to God,” shared Ustad Amjad Ali Khan.
The legendary musician went on to share fascinating insights from his illustrious musical career spanning over 70 years, highlighting his deep connection with the Tata Group and the Taj Hotels. The soiree, made up of members of Taj, The Chambers and prominent figures from the Indian diaspora community, commenced with warm welcome speeches from the hosts Taj and SBI UK and Air India – the event’s co-sponsors.
Taj Rendezvous, structured around “Conversations, Cocktails & More”, also commemorated the birth anniversary of Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata – a pioneering Indian industrialist and philanthropist who founded Tata Airlines, which later became Air India, and played a pivotal role in shaping modern India. Today, Air India's renewed transformation under the Tata Group continues this legacy, focusing on innovation, service excellence and global expansion.
