Sanskruti Foundation UK, a registered charity behind scores of kathas, dharma yatras, youth camps, discourses, and various sewa (sefless service) and satsang activities in the UK and in India, will play host to a rare mega event straight from India.
Its nine-day ‘Ram Katha’ will be recited by Bhaishri Rameshbhai Oza, from 13 February to 21 February at the iconic Sandipani Vidyaniketan in Porbandar, Gujarat.
“It is the first time Pujya Bhaishri will be reciting Ram Katha at Sandipani Vidyaniketan since it opened in February 1992,” the foundation notes.
“Shri Ram Katha guides us towards the ideal ethos of Life. The journey towards helping others to be the highest form of dharma, is the aim of Katha. All proceeds from the katha will be used for the upliment and empowerment of adivasi tribal children of Saputara, Gujarat,” it adds.
Alongside the Katha itself, a range of sewas are available so that maximum numbers from around the world feel connected with the ‘Ram Katha’. In the lead up to the event itself, a range of activities will be up and running too, including activities for children based on Ramayana characters as well as Sanskrit chanting classes.
The celebrations mark the 15th anniversary of the sacred consecration rituals, invoking the divinity within the various swaroops (characters) of Lord Rama. Besides the nine-day Katha, the anniversary celebrations will include nine-day “Manorath Jhankis”, “Annakoot, Govardhan and Gau Poojan on Vasant Panchami”, “Shri Vigrah Abhishek and Paalki Yatra on Rath Saptami” and “Nine-Kundi Ram Yagya”.
The Sandipani Vidya Sankul school in Saputara is a secondary school located in the sole hill station of Gujarat, educating the adivasi students of the Dang district of Gujarat – adivasi are described the ‘first dwellers’ of the forests, or tribal peoples of India. All proceeds from the mega event starting on February 13 will be geared towards the school to pay for educational, recreational and vocational training facilities, in line with Bhaishri’s dedication to the value-based educational development of children, especially in rural parts of India where there is a paucity of equal access to quality education and resources.
