Indian classical music not only boasts a rich heritage but can also boast of a global audience which continues to appreciate its artistry and finesse. British Indian diaspora here in the UK continues to take part in, and strengthen, the cultural roots which keep them connected to this traditional artform.
Local artists from the diaspora as well as professional singers from India continue to receive great response from audiences in the UK.
Having recently completed a series of events and concerts in Pune, western India, the popular Indian classical singer, Rahul Deshpande, has set off for his next tour around the UK. The series of tours, titled ‘Vasantostav’, are a part of the ‘Vasantostav’ initiative, a music festival started by Deshpande and Vishal Bharadwaj in the memory of the late Pandit Dr Vasantrao Deshpande – renowned classical singer and Deshpande’s grandfather.

Winner of the National Film Award for the Best Playback Singer for the Marathi biopic ‘Me Vasantrao’ – in which he also played the titular role – Deshpande is also known for lending his voice to the popular Marathi films like ‘Katyar Kaljat Ghusli’, ‘Balgandharva’ and ‘Amaltash’.
The tour titled ‘Vasantostav’ will weave a tapestry of musical brilliance wherein the musical virtuoso will be accompanied by the rhythmic mastery of Nikhil Phatak on tabla (Indian style drum), Aditya Oke on harmonium, Anay Gadgil on keyboard, and Rohan Vanage, adding the perfect side rhythm, promising a symphony of pure bliss.

The tour, which commenced in Kent over the weekend, will be followed by mesmerising performances in Leeds on December 2, and culminate in a grand finale in Manchester on December 3.
